The CIW Foundations course from Pitman Training will give you a unique understanding of three areas which relate to businesses and the internet, internet business, data networking. and website development.
The CIW Foundations course from Pitman Training will give you a unique understanding of three areas which relate to businesses and the internet – internet business, data networking and website development.
The course is designed to get you ready for the world of work – giving you practical business skills such as social networking – wikis, webcasting, blogging, podcasting and the key skill of search engine optimisation. You’ll be led through everything from building basic web pages to working with HTML/XML code and e-commerce. You will also gain a thorough understanding of networking relating to web technologies such as basic networking principles, TCP/IP, hardware and operating systems and network security.
You’ll learn the importance of Quality of Service (QoS), performance issues and how they affect today’s web based businesses. In essence, this CIW Foundations course will give you a solid grounding and on completion of this course, you will receive a Pitman Training Course Completion certificate*.

To learn how to build basic Web pages, work with HTML/XML Code and apply basic design factors for usability and navigation in electronic media. You will also learn to identify the importance of Quality of Service (QoS), performance issues and their effect on today’s web based economy.
This course is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in PC support or Web Design.
A knowledge of computers and basic computing terminology would be an advantage.
Session 1: CIW Foundations, Networking Basics, Hardware Requirements, Getting Connected, Internet Service Providers, The OSI Model.
Session 2: Understanding IP Addressing, Domain Names, Protocols and Ports, Understanding Web Browsers, Browser Add-Ons.
Session 3: Network Security, Viruses, Search Engines, Using Search Engines, Web Site Planning, HTML Foundations, HTML Formatting.
Session 4: Adding Graphics, Web Colour, Creating Lists, Using Tables, Linking Content, Collecting Data with Forms, Optimizing Graphics, Working with Frames.
Session 5: Advanced Authoring Techniques, E-Commerce, E-Commerce Standards, Web Site Administration, Publishing Web Sites, Legal And Ethical Issues, Managing Projects, Web Technologies.
This course will take around 14 hours to complete.
This course can be studied online. This means, you have the flexibility to study our CIW Foundations course:
- In centre, with our friendly course advisors available for support and guidance as and when you need it.
- At home or from work – with support via email or telephone during working hours.
- On a blended mix – in-centre for the modules you need help with, at home or from work for those you are gliding through.
